Timmy’s Preschool Adventure – Early Drawings part 2

Posted: March 9th, 2011

Last week we shared with you the early drawings of Timmy facing straight ahead. But much of the game spent with Timmy walking, side to side. This meant drawing a profile image of Timmy and animating him walking, something we’ve never done before.

As luck would have it, our artist had a brand new baby boy a month before we started work on timmy, so time was extremely limited. We got a rough sketch from him and spent a week refining a drawing until the profile looked perfect.

Then came time to start animating Timmy walking. We use 6 different images of Timmy, switching between them 5 times a second to make it look like he’s walking. It took a lot of work and tweaking to get the timing right, but we’re pretty happy with the way it came out.

Did you leave a review for Timmy yet? It really helps!

Timmy’s Preschool Adventure – Early Drawings

Posted: March 1st, 2011

When we started working on Timmy, we knew the character would be a big part of the game. He had to be a kid that the player could associate with, but follow in the same style as our Tantrum baby. Naturally we turned to my friend Sean Zimmerman, who did the original baby drawings from the Zoo Sounds games.

Sean provided some hand drawn concepts, which we scanned in and converted to digital. The first traces were really rough, but you could see the promise. Then after hours of tweaks and redraws, we ended up with Timmy.

Here’s the transformation from the early drawings:

The animation of Timmy took much longer. We’ll share that with you next week.

Timmy’s Preschool Adventure – The “Straight to School” trick

Posted: February 22nd, 2011

We got a review on iTunes suggesting we add a way to skip the mini games and go straight to the school. Wouldn’t you know, there’s a little easter egg in all versions of Timmy which does just that. Simply tap on Timmy’s window 3 times and you’ll be magically teleported to the School.

Of course, it’s up to you if you want to tell your kids about this trick. =)

Have you reviewed Timmy on iTunes yet? We’d really appreciate it!

Zoo Sounds 2 for iPhone Preview

Posted: February 8th, 2011

We’ve just finished the iPad version of Zoo Sounds 2 and have started working on the iPhone version. If you already have Zoo Sounds, the new version is a free upgrade! Better yet, if you have an iPad, you get that version too.

We’re adding a few enhancements to the existing Zoo Sounds, and throwing in two new games. Zoo Sounds 2 features swiping to advance between animals, a new card theme and new animals to enjoy. ‘Make Me an Animal’ lets you take a picture and record your child’s voice imitating their favorite animal. ‘Which Animal’ is a guessing game where the animal makes a sound, and you need to choose which animal made it.

Here’s a quick preview of some gameplay from the iPhone version:

Zoo Sounds 2 will be available in the end of February and is a free download for existing owners.
